Friday Eagles Game Preview and PredictionAll of the story lines have dried up and the men are ready to play. Sunday 1:00 is kickoff and some fans may even already be at the Linc parking lot with their hibachi grill and a few cold ones. But a few more stray observations to go and a prediction will get us ready here at pcp for Sundays game:
.) Phillip Rivers is key for the Chargers. As mentioned earlier in the week, he owns the highest career opponent QB rating against the Eagles and can certainly do damage. If the Eagles shut down his passing game, they will win this game easily.
.) I wonder if Manti Te’o will receive any sort of reaction from the Eagles crowd at this game. Philadelphia does have a large Notre Dame fan base, and Te’o did make himself a target with his girlfriend last year (or lack thereof).
.) Interested to see how many carries the running backs get and how Chip Kelly rations out the carries and tocuhes from his backfield. I feel like McCoy will have less than 31 carries, but will still carry the large bulk of the load. Where was Chris Polk in week 1? Feels like Kelly either doesn’t have complete confidence in his backup runnings backs or he is in love with Shady. And honestly, what is not to love. he looks like a top 3 back. The kind of back we thought he would become in 2011. He could eclipse 1,500 rushing yards this year.
.) Despite Michael Vicks lack of accuracy, he made great reads in week one in the read option. Look for more of the same. Vick will never be a consistant 60% completion percentage kind of guy, but he may not need to be in this kind of offense. If he constantly has 3 viable options (which it looked like at most times on Monday, even if the defense knew what it was doing) he won’t always need to be as accurate as we thought.
.) Am I the only I who can’t wait to see the Special Teams play on Sunday? They flew around, they hit people, they were aggressive, and they looked hungry.
.) Pick: The Eagles are home. Vegas has them as a big favorite. They are playing a West Coast team coming to the East Coast on a short week. All of this adds up to a victory in my book, but I am not going to go crazy yet. While I think the Eagles will win this game outright, let’s go 31-28 and say it will be much closer than a blowout. I am tempering my expectation until I see a few more games. 1 game does not make a season no matter how good they look. A lot of teams look good after one game and we get carried away every year. Let’s at least play 4 games before we decide if they are a playoff team or before we make predictions on how many wins they will or will not compile.
